The galah is the personification of Sleeping Beauty, known in the Brothers Grimm version as Briar Rose. Here the princess is enchanted into sleep and does not awake until she is kissed by her prince.
The bird is perched on the back of a Dutch Rococo carved hall bench from the mid-18th Century. The wallpaper is a segment of Morris & Co’s The Brook design, inspired by a tapestry by J. H. Dearle (1858-1932).
