The Big Brown Dog Kiosk

Stoker, our chocolate Labrador & name muse inspiration for the Big Brown Dog Kiosk was – and he would be the first to admit it – more than a little pleased with a recent double-page Country Style magazine photo shoot come media spread.

Stoker took some time to sit down, and he had to bring to the photo shoot his favourite German Teddy- but all was good on the day. Biscuits were in play.

So, after some fussing about, Stoker welcomes you to his namesake Kiosk.

The Big Brown Dog Kiosk provides visitors to the gallery with a special coffee blend, being a mix of Nicaragua, Ethiopia and Columbian coffees- combined to form a well-rounded and full-bodied cup of coffee. With over 30 years of experience, Cathy Armstrong chef leader of the Big Brown Dog Kiosk has cooked for luminaries such as Prince, Cher, Diana Ross, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt and David Byrne of Talking Heads during her stint in rock’n’roll catering.

She co-owned a bistro in Ohio USA, that was listed by the Zagat Guide for its splendid desserts as well as winning a major award for building restoration. Upon her return to Australia she opened Greens Café in Bondi, which was listed as one of Sydney’s top 10 Cafes by The Sydney Morning Herald. Cathy also created the award-winning Princess Pantry range of jams and preserves. In 2012 her book Coming Home (published by Penguin Lantern) became a Mother’s Day favourite with stories of food and belonging.

Just off Mayne Street Murrurundi and a little way down Boyd street, the Big Brown Dog Kiosk is situated within the art gallery, adjacent to Bobadil House (1842).
