Precious Abundance

Precious Abundance is the first collaboration between Michael Reid Murrurundi and Gosford Regional Gallery and presents audiences with an opportunity to explore Mandy Francis‘s painterly world; one that celebrates birds and nature while acknowledging that abundance has its limits. Working from her home studio on the Central Coast of NSW, Francis creates arresting compositions by distilling field notes and photographs, translating them into expressive oil paintings and unique sculptural works.

Inspired by strong shadows, unusual perspectives and natural patterns, Mandy Francis experiments freely with paint, pastels, wire, paper mache and found objects. Rather than working to a fixed plan, she lets each piece evolve through the process itself, moving between fast, energetic bursts and slow, economic application of her mediums. Mandy often works across multiple paintings and/or sculptures at one time.

The result is an exhibition of work that feels alive, unscripted and as free as the avian subject matter that underpins the entire body of work. Mandy Francis’ major regional gallery exhibition commences from Friday 25th July at Gosford Regional Gallery. While on view, a small number of Mandy Francis paintings will also be on display at Michael Reid Murrurundi. All paintings across both locations may be purchased through Michael Reid Murrurundi.
