Jane Reynolds is a Sydney-based still life painter whose poised compositions investigate the relationships between colour, form and light. She invests everyday objects with visual delight through a vibrant colour palette that ricochets off each surface, painted with stunning realism. Reynolds explores the optical play between flat plane and sculptural illusion, inventing arrangements that strike a balance between restraint and play. Through this, she explores still life as an interlocking system of formal elements.
Random Order is a continuation of past works, however this show enjoys the additional element of random placement that is precarious, temporary, and disordered.
By introducing arrangements based on chance, painting this body of work allowed Jane a step away from lockdown life’s routines and confinement.
Reynolds’ work is grounded in two decades’ experience in traditional animation and visual effects, resulting in a practice that fuses a sophisticated understanding of illusionistic space with the clarity and luminosity of oil painting.
