After being thrust into major art collector conversations in 2022, when the Art Gallery of NSW selected her as a finalist in both the Archibald Prize and Wynne PrizeJulianne Ross Allcorn makes Michael Reid Murrurundi return with an exhibition of new artworks conjuring magical impressions of the Kenyan  landscape. Julianne Ross Allcorn recently endeavoured to Kenya on an art education trip in which she worked with local children by leading art studio workshops.

“From top to bottom, left to right, Allcorn’s paintings read as if you are standing within a grove of native trees,” writes Michael Reid OAM of the exquisitely layered thickets of bush brilliantly conjured by the artist with her fine, wisp-like strokes and smatterings of gold-flecked magic.

Little Baby Cheeses

Little Baby Cheeses

  • Artist
    Jo White
  • Dates
    19 Feb—16 Mar 2025

The next solo exhibition from celebrated Armidale-based contemporary painter Jo White brings the foxy ladies of Fountain Lakes to Murrurundi in a playful tribute to the beloved television comedy Kath & Kim.

Brought to life with White’s painterly panache, fabulous eye for detail and irreverent sense of yumour, select works from her Little Baby Cheeses series have now arrived at our Eora/Sydney gallery and can be secured by request before they hightail it to Murrurundi for this month’s opening.

From the statue of little baby cheeses that gives the series its title to the oodles of hot suggestions and myriad special acquaintances that have crossed the squeaky door at Whitehorse Court, White’s latest work deftly immortalises the objects and moments that have emerged from the show as cultural touchstones and become lodged in the Australian comic lexicon. And of course, there’s a joker in the pack.

This nice, different and unusual series arrives after a banner year in which White presented a trifecta of sold-out solo shows across the Michael Reid network and was selected for the Sulman Prize’s Salon des Refusés at S. H. Ervin Gallery in Sydney.

Alive with brilliant colour, wit and lashings of loving nostalgia, White’s work is attuned to the way certain objects attain totemic significance with resonances specific to a place or pop-cultural moment.

For all art lovers and collectors, hornbags and Warnie fans, we’ve got one word to say to you: crack open the footy franks and Tia Maria and register your interest, tout suite!

Country Style 2025- Heirloom

    28 Feb—30 Mar 2025

Six extraordinary artists and artist duos joining are set to join forces for the sixth edition of our annual group exhibition in collaboration with Country Style. Co-curated by the magazine and Michael Reid Murrurundi, this year’s exhibition takes Heirloom as its theme, threaded with reflections on love and learning while exploring the ways in which cultural inheritances are carried across generations through creative practice.

From First Nations painters who treat the canvas as a conduit for the intergenerational transfer of stories and cultural knowledge to contemporary photographers who cast their kin as collaborative muses, the six artists assembled for our 2025 Country Style exhibition remind us that creativity never exists in a vacuum; it lives on a continuum and invites dynamic cultural exchange.

Speaking to the ways in which the heirlooms we inherit or pass down to others become cherished reflections of the ties we hold dear, their vibrant, evocative and visually charged work acts as a powerful force for channelling ideas, inspiration, cultural legacies and celebrations of family.

Heirloom brings together for the first time some of the most important and celebrated figures in Australian contemporary art, presenting new works of sculpture, photography and paintings by Raylene Walatinna and Betty Chimney, Tamara Dean, Mai Nguyễn-Long, Regina Pilawuk Wilson and Hayden Wilson, Serena Bonson and Jeremiah Bonson, and the late Polixeni Papapetrou.  Many of these artists are the subjects of expansive editorial profiles that will feature in a special Art Edition of Country Style magazine, published to coincide with our exhibition at Michael Reid Murrurundi.
