Michael Reid Object is excited collaborate with English artist TOM ROOTH, and our first offering, the Sea Turtle and Octopus soap dishes from his Oceanic Collection showcase in miniature his massive talent.

Like Michael Reid, Tom is a Christie’s London alumnus: a one-time head of the Victorian Paintings department at Christie’s South Kensington, he is also the grandson of a Royal Academician and the son of an artist.

He understands the art from the inside out, from the historical to the practical and since 2017 has been hand decorating plates and table ware with creatures and bounty from nature from crustaceans to molluscs, bees to butterflies, apples to artichokes. Many designs were created during the pandemic in 2020, when he went to his family’s Welsh cottage for a weekend but got locked down and was there for three months, resulting in his “Isolation” Collection.

These porcelain soap dishes are from his Oceanic Collection and feature his famous octopus and sea turtle designs, transfer printed from one of his original drawings. Object has a limited number of each of these two designs, which make perfect Christmas presents of stocking fillers.
