The Walking Prayer: Ambulatio Orationis is a contemplative artwork shaped by the sacred movement of George Gurdjieff and the numerical sequence 142587 known as the Law of Seven. A carpet of numbered coloured squares becomes both stage and score. Each dancer steps precisely across the grid and their pathways form a living pattern that unfolds in rhythm and intention. The geometry is not only seen but felt as a meditation in motion.
Inspiration rises from the artist’s art journals from travels over the vast landscapes of Australia. Flora and fauna weave through the design. Insects shimmer among leaves and branches extend into an evolving tree of life and the river flows with a continual grace giving life to all. The work honours interconnectedness and the quiet pulse of the natural world.
The visual language in this artwork is enriched by the Persian film Gabbeh by Mohsen Makhmalbaf with its hand knotted tribal rug symbolism and by the French film Séraphine which tells the story of Séraphine de Senlis. Walking Prayer becomes devotion expressed through colour pattern and movement.
