Those would be just the clothes for me, 2024

oil on canvas
60 x 50 cm, framed

This kookaburra is impersonating the leading character in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes. Here the king comes to inspect the work of the fraudulent tailors, who have convinced him that their beautiful garments are only invisible to stupid people. Unable to admit that he might be dense, the king pretends that he can see the clothes and is shamed when he parades naked through his city.
Here, he is on my sewing machine, with an antique empty spool of thread and a pincushion in the shape of a crown.
